The Region 5 Dive Team recovered the body of Waterbury man and drowning victim Jamie Ward, 41, at 5:17 p.m. on Monday , according to police.
WATERBURY — Police say a man drowned in East Mountain Reservoir Monday afternoon.
Waterbury authorities and EMS personnel were called to the reservoir at 4:15 p.m. for a report of a drowning involving an adult male. Prospect authorities and the Region 5 Dive Team subsequently made the scene as well.
The Region 5 Dive Team is a nonprofit organization that provides volunteer public safety diving services to Litchfield County and surrounding areas. The team recovered the body of Jamie Ward, 41, of Waterbury at 5:17 p.m., according to police.
Investigators determined Ward was swimming in the reservoir with a woman when he went under and did not come back up, according to police. His death is the subject of an active investigation, police said.
Investigators said they did not notice any indications that trauma or foul play were involved in Ward’s death. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause was drowning and the manner was accidental, according to police.
This is not the first time the East Mountain Reservoir has claimed lives. In July 2020, a 17-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man drowned in the reservoir after an air mattress they were using as a flotation device flipped over, sending them into the water.
