On June 1, 2022, the public comment period begins for the proposal to issue an Arizona Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (AZPDES) Renewal Permit to Tusayan Sanitary District for the Tusayan Wastewater Treatment Plant located in Grand Canyon, Arizona. The comment period ends June 30, 2022.

Tusayan Sanitary District applied for a renewal AZPDES permit for the proposed discharge of up to 0.75 million gallons per day (mgd) of treated domestic wastewater from the Tusayan Wastewater Treatment Plant to the Coconino Wash in Coconino County, Arizona. The Tusayan Wastewater Treatment Plant is a publicly owned treatment works that receives domestic wastewater from residential, and commercial sources in Grand Canyon City. Sludge is stabilized during a long residence in the extended aeration treatment plant mix liquor/activated sludge process and then dewatered for landfill disposal.
